Who Knew?

Are you expecting your first child? At first, you’re eager to share the exciting news with family and friends, and you’re met with heartwarming congratulations and best wishes. But after a couple of weeks, the advice starts rolling in from all directions.

It’s lovely that people want to offer their so-called words of wisdom, but when do you get to hit the pause button? When can you kindly remind them that you already know you can’t have sushi?

Your inbox soon fills up with daily articles about pregnancy, flu shots, or the latest reports on possible dangers like vaccinations. Sometimes, you just want to shout, “Can I have my baby first!”

Amidst the overwhelming advice, you may feel inclined to share your thoughts on how you plan to raise your child (e.g., cloth diapers, avoiding formula, or opting for a natural birth). Instead of encouragement, you’re often met with skeptical looks or comments implying that you won’t, shouldn’t, or certainly wouldn’t follow through with these ideas.

Your body is changing, hormones are fluctuating, and friendly advice keeps coming. The best approach isn’t to hide your pregnancy (though it might seem tempting), but rather to take care of yourself. Focus on finding and developing coping strategies to relax, eat well, and practice yoga.

Stay positive, breathe deeply, and remember, you’re about to be part of a beautiful miracle… childbirth.V
