EMDR – Eye MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION  rEPROCESSING

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) like many therapies, focuses on past, present, an future challenges. Unresolved and traumatic past experiences can distort how we feel, think, and perceive ourselves today—for example, feeling like you’re not good enough despite knowing your value. EMDR can improve emotional well-being and your ability to build and maintain positive relationships.

EMDR uses movements from one side of our body to the other, known as bilateral stimulation (BLS), to help the brain process and update distressing memories. There are multiple types of BLS, such as eye-movements, sound, and tapping. EMDR helps reframe past experiences from a healthier, present-day perspective.

Is EMDR Right for Me?

EMDR is appropriate for individuals of all ages. While it is widely known for its effectiveness in treating trauma and PTSD, EMDR is also beneficial for many issues.

Individuals may benefit from EMDR if they experience:

  • Post-traumatic stress symptoms following a single incident or chronic trauma.
  • Anxiety, panic attacks, or phobias.
  • Depression.
  • Complicated grief or loss.
  • Negative self-beliefs or persistent low self-esteem.
  • Dissociative symptoms or emotional numbing.
  • Intrusive thoughts or memories that are difficult to manage.
  • Difficulty regulating emotions or persistent irritability.

Many clients who use EMDR report relief from symptoms faster than those who use talk therapy alone.
