Do I need a referral to start therapy?
No, you do not need a referral to begin therapy. You can self-refer at any time by contacting us directly. However, some extended health insurance plans may require a physician’s referral for reimbursement, so we recommend checking with your provider.
Do you offer direct billing?

Yes! We offer direct billing for most major Canadian insurers. Let us know who your insurance provider is and we will be happy to let you know if we can bill them directly for your sessions.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple:

  1. Get in touch with us through our contact form or phone at (905) 571-7441.
  2. We will connect to get you matched with a therapist and schedule your FREE 15-minute phone or video consultation.
  3. Complete the intake form prior to your first session.

Our goal is to make the process as simple as possible from beginning to end.

What is the process for seeking therapy for my minor child?

For clients under the age of 18, we require the informed consent of all biological parents or legal guardians before services begin. This is not required if legal documentation is provided to prove sole custody or decision-making authority.

We begin by scheduling a FREE 15-minute phone or video consultation between you and one of our therapists to ensure that they are a good match for your child.

Then, a 90-minute parent intake will be scheduled between you and the therapist without your child present. This is to equip your child’s therapist with the history and any relevant information required to effectively support your child. Your child’s therapist will also take time to explain their approach and plan going forward. If it is not possible for both parents/guardians to attend together, two 45-minute individual sessions may be held in place of the 90-minute parent session.

Finally, individual sessions between your child and their therapist can begin, with occasional check-ins and updates to be scheduled with you as needed or upon request.

Our goal is to balance confidentiality with parental involvement, always prioritizing your child’s best interests and safety while fostering an environment of family collaboration.

How long are the sessions?

Intake sessions are 90 minutes in length. This extended time allows you and your therapist to explore your goals for therapy, review relevant background information, and begin identifying practical tools and strategies you can start using right away.

Ongoing sessions are typically 60 or 90 minutes, depending on your needs and your therapist’s clinical recommendations.

We prioritize ensuring you receive the full time you book. If you schedule a 60‑minute session, you can expect the entire session to be spent in active therapeutic work, so you can make the most of your time.

What are your fees?

Whether you are looking for individual, couples, or family counselling, you always know what to expect when it comes to our fees. Our fees do not change depending on how many participants are in-session.

90-minute sessions are $300.00.

60-minute sessions are $200.00.

There is no tax on these services, and if you have extended health coverage, we may be able to direct bill on your behalf to reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket expenses.

Don’t have extended health coverage or access to the funds needed to access therapy? Inquire about our Food 4 Thought Thursdays program and see if you qualify!

How long does therapy usually last?
The length of therapy varies from person to person depending on your goals, concerns, and preferences. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions), while others prefer to engage in longer-term work for deeper exploration or ongoing support.
You and your therapist will regularly review your progress together and adjust as needed.
What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, may be subject to partial or full payment at the discretion of Finding Solutions Together.

We understand that sickness or extenuating circumstances do occasionally impact our clients’ availability to attend their sessions within the 24-hour cancellation window. At these times, grace may be extended at the discretion of your therapist.

Do you offer assessments or diagnoses?

We incorporate assessment and individualized treatment planning as part of our therapeutic work. However, we do not provide formal DSM-5 diagnoses for insurance or disability purposes.

At your therapist’s discretion, and after a sufficient number of sessions to support clinical understanding, we can provide a Summary Report for insurance, school, or workplace needs.

Do you offer crisis or emergency services?
No, we are not a crisis or emergency service. We do not monitor our emails or phone line on evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency department.

What is the difference between a Registered Psychotherapist and a Registered Social Worker?

Both professionals are regulated in Ontario and qualified to provide psychotherapy, but there are some differences:

Registered Psychotherapist (RP):

  • Regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Focused specifically on psychotherapy and mental health treatment
  • Training emphasizes therapeutic modalities and clinical skills

Registered Social Worker (RSW):

  • Regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Broader training that may include mental health, social systems, advocacy, and case management
  • May work in a wider range of settings (e.g., hospitals, community agencies)

Both RPs and RSWs are qualified to provide safe, ethical, and effective therapy.
